“I became a consultant oncoplastic breast surgeon in 2013 after completing training in oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgery in several renowned breast units in the South East deanery. My areas of expertise are in the diagnosis and management of benign and malignant breast conditions and skin lesions, particularly melanoma. On average I diagnose and manage 100 breast cancers per year and support my patients throughout their journey to recovery. 

I joined Frimley Health Foundation Trust in 2015 where I have had the privilege of helping my patients to manage breast disease and provide treatment, employing the latest oncoplastic techniques, such as fat transfer and pre-pectoral implant reconstruction using acellular dermal matrix and intra-operative analysis of sentinel lymph nodes in breast cancer using the OSNA technique.

One of the advanced techniques that I have embraced is chest wall perforator surgery, whereby a higher proportion of patients could avoid the need for mastectomy through breast conserving surgery; which has a similar prognosis and typically leads to a better quality of life in the long-term. My vast experience and advanced techniques enables me to preserve aesthetics and functionality where possible, as I understand this to be of great importance in daily life, identity and self-confidence.

I make the time to carefully listen to my patients’ concerns and queries in a compassionate and supportive manner, which I am proud to see is reflected in the positive feedback I receive on the iwantgreatcare website. I understand that addressing medical issues is of great importance, however I firmly believe that doing so should not take a large toll on partaking in scheduled plans and hobbies. Therefore, I aim to be as flexible as possible to accommodate busy life schedules.

I gravitate towards offering the latest treatments and I am therefore keen to collaborate with other members in the unit and to support research. My colleagues and I have set up the Breast Research and Support (BRAS) Charity which is raising funds to employ a dedicated breast research nurse solely involved in local, national and international breast research. This provides our Frimley breast patients with the chance to participate in advanced trials which aim to improve patient outcomes.

I offer one stop breast service clinics to assess and manage benign and malignant breast conditions as well as see and treat skin lesion clinics. I am happy to consult the ‘worried-well’ to address their symptoms and hopefully help to reassure them further.

I provide breast health clinic assessments to assess risk factors and their probability of contributing to the development of future breast cancers. One of the risk factors that would be assessed is hereditary risk of breast cancers based on family history. In line with the current national guidance, I offer genetic testing to women of 40 years of age and below who are unfortunate to have breast cancer; thus allowing these qualifying patients to have novel, systemic therapies which were not previously made available to this group of patients.

I also help patients with genetic predisposition to breast cancer (BRCA+) by offering surveillance imaging or consideration of risk reducing surgery with immediate, implant or autologous breast reconstruction.

I take pride in my work which has been recognised through several of my achievements such as having qualified with honours from Cairo Medical School in 1987 and having been awarded the Hallett prize from The Royal College of Surgeons of England for outstanding performance in 1993. I have also been awarded the iWantGreatCare certificate of excellence for two years running, in 2022 and 2023, for delivering outstanding care.

I am the current local lead for the Frimley Park Hospital Breast Multidisciplinary Team as well as the lead on the Surgical Site Infection Audit (SSIA). Alongside this, I am a proud member of the regional Surrey, West Sussex and Hampshire Network Skin Cancer Multidisciplinary Team. The support I receive from these teams is invaluable and helps me to care for my patients efficiently.

I am actively involved in training doctors at various stages in their career, and have been on the faculty of Kent , Surrey and Sussex Deanery clinical simulation and laparoscopic skills courses. This helps me keep abreast with the modern techniques and concepts. I am also a principal investigator of the National Breast Trial ATNEC.”
